Wine Class - Bordeaux Blanc Around the World
About this Event
Join Certified Sommelier Joshua Voytek on an exploration of a classic style of a white wine blend that continues to rise in popularity. The Bordeaux region is most known for big bold reds made from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, and Malbec. However, Bordeaux Blanc is made from varying combinations of the grapes Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, and can be produced in numerous quality levels and price tiers, and the high quality examples can also be age-worthy like some of the other great French whites. With the popularity of Sauvignon Blanc as a whole worldwide, many people are finding that adding Semillon to their plantings and creating Bordeaux Blanc style wines can produce some real exciting white blends that follows the adage of "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." These whites are not just for summer as well and can be great food friendly options with the heavier meals we tend to start to eat come fall. In other words, they are great wines for the fall season and as we settle into fall schedules, can be a great option to have for both a Tuesday night class of wine, or a pairing with a nice get together on a Saturday. This class will explore some examples and styles of Bordeaux Blanc both from France, and various other continents as well to see how this style responds to different expressions and climates. If you are a fan of Sauvignon Blanc or dry crisp white wines, this is definitely the class for you, but also a good opportunity to appreciate the value of white blends, especially from classic regions. Joshua is also planning on bringing a fun bonus wine to share, but will also include some wines that are new to the store, so those attending the class may have an opportunity to be the first to try some of these wines. See you there!
