Howdy Dr. Q, Today was the first day since we met for the "Win the Classroom" workshop in College Station. In class today I decided to emphasize the importance of practicing procedures. As students came in I made sure that the procedure was posted on the board and gave them 10 seconds after the bell rang to be at their seat, logged in to the Chromebook, and started with their warm up. Of course, they did not have it done... so we all went back to the hallway to reset. We did this several times until every student was following the procedure correctly. Later in class, we were completing notes with a graphic organizer and I saw that some students were getting up to grab it at the front of the room because they hadn't picked it up when they came in. I immediately asked the whole class to go back out into the hallway to reset our "entering the classroom" procedure and try again. This happened at different times during classes today with one class actually having to "reset" 6 times! Even though I was being more strict about this procedure, it was interesting to see the smiles on students' faces as they realized what needed to be done next time. It was actually kind of fun! I plan to focus and really spend time emphasizing our classroom rules, expectations, and transitions next week. I truly appreciate the guidance and insight that you shared with us at the workshop! I'm going to definitely share what I learned with my peers and department next week during our PLC period! Thanks again, Jacob P., Biology teacher
Hey Dr. Q, I implemented several strategies we talked about during the workshop today, in particular with my 8th period, whom I read the riot act to over the behavioral issues I've dealt with all year. I got 100% participation and you could hear a pin drop during my eighth while they were working. I don't know if I can fully articulate the relief I felt watching them get it done today. I think I successfully explained my expectations to them, and the lesson I planned during the session went well, and as a result I think I got a hard reset and changed the class. I'm going to reinforce again on Monday, but I'm so grateful that I got the chance to work through the issues I've been having and develop strategies to address my problems, and I'm glad I made the choice to go to the workshop. Thanks for your help, Michael D., English IV
Good morning, I have implemented some things from our conference last week and have seen a big difference in my students in just one day! We went over every single procedure on Friday and are continuing to go over them today as well! My students seem to really enjoy the things we have implemented as well. The hardest part has been staying consistent over all of my students and holding them ALL accountable, but I know with time I will get there! I am very excited for the future of my classroom!! Again, Thank you for all of the helpful tools you have given me! Hayden M., 2nd grade/Self-Contained
