Wildseed: Native Seed Library Introduction
https://www.mainspringconserves.org/events/8-5-26-wildseed-library-murphy/
Join Outreach Director Skye in the conference room of the Murphy Public Library to learn about Mainspring’s WNC Wildseed Library (WWL), a volunteer-supported native seed collection and distribution initiative. The WWL distributes local, native seeds to our community for free, with the overarching intentions of increasing wildlife habitat and encouraging appreciation for native plants. You’ve supported Mainspring’s conservation efforts, and now we hope to support your conservation (and gardening) efforts by making it easy for you to access and grow native plants! Native seed packets will be available for attendees to take home at the end of this event.
During this talk, we will first discuss how native plants differ from exotic plants and nonnative invasive plants, and why they are so important to humans, wildlife, and the earth. Then, we will move into describing how the WNC Wildseed Library works and some of the services it provides, including educational programming. Finally, we will explain why community support is crucial to the success of the WWL, and how you can help by volunteering, donating seed, growing plants, or donating financially.
We will meet in the Murphy Public Library conference room on Wednesday, August 5th and begin at 5:30pm. The event will go until around 7:00pm, including a Q&A session. See the map below for exact location. Chairs will be provided. We suggest bringing water, a snack, a sweater, a notebook, and something to write with. Laptops welcome! Please email [email protected] with any questions.
