Wild Women in the Woods: Photography in Nature
About this Event
Together, we'll slow down, wander, and reconnect with our creative imaginations through a half day retreat for women+ at the gorgeous Uvas County Park. (Waterfalls! Redwoods! Oh my!). Join filmmaker Tricia Creason-Valencia and Photographer Janet Appleton for this creative retreat, designed around two seemingly dichotomous photographic practices: the old fashioned art of cyanotype printing and modern cell phone photography. Both forms allow us to create magic when we bring a spirit of play and exploration.
We'll gather inspiration from the forest floor, experiment with light and shadow, and create one-of-a-kind blueprints using natural materials found along our journey.
This experience is limited to 20 women+ who crave time in nature and meaningful connection with other wome+. No artistic experience required: just curiosity, comfortable shoes, and a willingness to embrace your wild side.
Come make art in community and discover what the woods have to teach you.
We will provide a simple lunch, but attendees are invited to bring food to share in the spirit of community building.
Note: As a precursor the the retreat, attendees are encouraged to attend a free introductory workshop featuring an artist talk with Janet Appleton and a mini-cyanotype workshop titled Visible: Exploring Self through Cyanotype Printing the night before the retreat, July 10, 6-8 PM at PowerHouse San Jose.
