We will be starting the walk at Bevendean Community Garden, heading up through The Hyde Business park where we embark on a big climb (approx 100 steps!) At Warren road we'll cross over and walk parallel to the racecourse before heading down through the fields. We pass through the village of Ovingdean, and wind our way down to the coast. At Ovingdean beach we can stop for refreshments, there is a cafe or bring picnic. The walk is not a circular walk. To return to Brighton we will catch the bus from a nearby bus stop. We will meet in Bevendean Community Garden. Turn left just after the bus stop opposite Bevendean Primary School. Walk a short way and cross over a metal vehicle gate. Turn left and the garden will be ahead of you. Walk into the garden through the gate. There is a compost toilet here.

While we will be moving at a medium - slow pace, please note that our route includes a steep incline of approximately 100 steps. We also walk on uneven ground, it is therefore not suitable for anyone using a wheelchair or with severe mobility issues. Please contact me: [email protected], as soon as possible if you have any concerns about this.

Duration

This Ovindean Walk will takes around 1.5-2 hours, however as we will stop periodically for listening activities, the walk is likely to take approximately 3hrs. Please also factor in the time to travel back to Brighton if you need to be somewhere later on.

Please note timings are approximate.

Weather

The event remains enjoyable even with a bit of rain. If we are experiencing torrential downpours, or very high winds the walk will be re-scheduled we will be in touch 24hrs before if this is the case. As we will be walking in early April, many layers are recommended.

About Interactive Listening Walks

Interactive Listening Walks (ILWs) connect local urban communities to the nature and heritage of the Downs – in these supportive, fun, and grounding workshops, we tune into the changing sounds around us as we explore different places.ILWs offer an innovative, sensory way for people to engage with natural landscapes. Our participants report improved mental health and wellbeing through being supported in a group to listen, immerse themselves in and play with the places we move through. These listening tools are free, simple and transferable – people who come on our workshops learn a new skill and way of accessing outdoor spaces.
