Wild Fringe: What is the Nature Sector Missing?

Join UK Youth for Nature and Butterfly Conservation for an evening at The Station in Bristol as we ask: what is the nature sector missing?
The evening will feature two panels of experts and passionate advocates who will share their honest takes on where we, as a sector, are falling short and how individuals and local communities can drive change. Our aim for this event is to platform different ideas and ways of working that can help us move towards our shared goal of a nature-rich future.
Panel One: Environmental Agitators - Meet the people calling for out-of-the-box thinking, for the sector to stand firm in holding decision-makers to account, and for the environmental movement to acknowledge the interconnectedness of nature, people and justice.
This panel will include Mary Colwell, award-winning author, producer and campaigner. She is the Director of Curlew Action and has been the driving force behind the campaign for the Natural History GCSE; Ryan Dalton, wildlife podcaster, comedian and founding member of Naturalists for Palestine; and Domi Palmer, author and award-winning climate advocate.

Panel Two: Community and Me - During this discussion, we will hear from community organisers, local projects and people who have taken challenges into their own hands and created projects to drive change at a grassroots level.
This panel will include Seniz Mustafa, Urban Beaver Officer at Ealing Beaver Project and Butterfly Conservation Ambassador; Max Moocroft, co-creator of CitySprout Game CIC, a card game about urban plants which aims to get people looking at the plants on their doorstep and works with a grassroots community organisation and guiding nature walks in Bristol; and Ben Barker founder member of the BS3 Wildlife Group. He is also part of the editorial team of Avon Wildlife News which has a circulation of over 700 people of largely local communit activists.

Between the panels, there will be opportunities for networking and discussion, as well as a chance to share your own ideas ahead of the Wild Summit the following day. This is your chance to be heard and help shape the future of wildlife conservation, with Butterfly Conservation taking these ideas directly to CEOs and decision-makers at Wildlife and Countryside Link’s Wild Summit the following day.
This event is suitable for anyone aged 16+. Anyone under 18 is welcome to attend with an adult.
