This book club is for anyone curious about climate and passionate about cultivating connection and understanding through dialogue. No need to be an expert or to have finished the book—just come with an open mind and a willingness to explore.

Our next read is Hospicing Modernity: Facing Humanity’s Wrongs and the Implications for Social Activism By Vanessa Machado de Oliveira.

This book challenges the idea that the future can be “fixed” using the same modern systems that created our current global crises. Vanessa Machado de Oliveira—drawing on Indigenous, decolonial, and spiritual traditions—argues that modernity is in a terminal stage and must be “hospiced,” not saved. That means learning to let go of destructive worldviews like individualism, human supremacy, and linear progress. She calls on activists to shift from trying to reform broken systems to fostering relational, grounded ways of being that can survive and regenerate after collapse. The book blends personal narrative, critical theory, and teachings from Indigenous elders, offering a transformative lens for those engaged in social and environmental justice work.
