About this Event

Join us for the next "Why Arts Matter" research speaker series hosted by the College of Arts in partnership with the International Institute for Critical Studies and Improvisation (IICSI), exploring the intersection of disciplines to address individual experience, social life, and culture. This series highlights the importance of the arts in shaping our understanding of the world.

This panel explores how the arts shape public life, social movements, and well-being by transforming the ways people participate in and experience public spaces. Featuring Dr. Kim McLeod, Dr. Eric Fillion, and Dr. Rebecca Barnstaple, the discussion connects digital and activist performance, music and improvisation in cultural and political life, and dance-based practices that support health and community care. Together, the panelists show how creative work can influence cultural, political, and health systems, and how performance, music, and dance open new possibilities for participation, critique, and collective well-being in the spaces we share.

This series will be video recorded for later distribution. Following the panel, audience members can engage in a Q&A session. This series will be video recorded for later distribution. Audience members will not be on camera, however will be asked to sign a release for their voice to be included in the recording if they choose to ask a question.
