What if the earliest known humans in Malta arrived a thousand years earlier than we thought? Thanks to a remarkable discovery, researchers are rewriting the timeline of the Maltese Islands—and possibly reshaping our understanding of Mediterranean prehistory.
Join Prof. Eleanor Scerri and Dr. Huw Groucutt for an eye-opening Malta Café Scientifique talk; ’Who was here first?: A new look at Malta’s earliest people’ that delves into the cutting-edge findings from the IslandLab project, an international research effort at the forefront of archaeological science.
Together, these two internationally renowned scientists will share insights from their research from the site of Għar il-Latnija that show that Malta's earliest human presence occurred at least 1,000 years earlier than previously believed!
The talk will explore the broader implications of this find—how island archaeology is shedding light on human resilience, environmental adaptation, and long-distance connections in the ancient world. 💬
📆 Tuesday 3rd February, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
