The event will present the evidence demonstrating the leadership qualities required to guide the United Nations through the post-2030 era
About this Event

The election of the next Secretary-General comes at a moment when multilateralism faces unprecedented expectations. Governments are confronting overlapping crises, from climate change and growing inequalities to geopolitical fragmentation, global health threats, and declining trust in international institutions. At the same time, the United Nations is reflecting on its own future through the UN80 process, raising fundamental questions about legitimacy, representation, and institutional effectiveness.

GWL Voices has approached this conversation differently. Rather than beginning with advocacy, the organization began with evidence.

Through analysis of leadership representation across the multilateral system, monitoring of Member States' priorities, research on global governance trends, and engagement with diplomats, experts, young leaders, and civil society, from Geneva and Jeju to the High-Level Political Forum, GWL Voices has documented a consistent pattern: the challenges facing the international community increasingly demand forms of leadership that have remained underrepresented at the highest levels of global governance.

This event presents the culmination of that work.

Rather than asking whether the United Nations should elect its first woman Secretary-General, the discussion asks a different question: What kind of leadership does today's world require?
