About this Event

Joining Faith Deering for an engaging, hands-on workshop where you will make and take away your own whisk broom!

Broom making has a long and unique history in the Connecticut River Valley. As you work on your broom you will learn some of the fascinating stories of local broom making. Broom corn grown and harvested in the Grow Food Northampton Living History Garden, and a collection of brooms from around the world will be on display. No special skills are required and all materials and tools will be provided.

Faith Deering lives in Florence, Massachusetts where she makes brooms and grows broom corn. She learned the history and craft of broom making during the fifteen years she worked as a Museum Educator at Historic Deerfield. There, she demonstrated broom making and offered broom making workshops for museum visitors.
