About this Event

When the Ukrainian Sun Rises: From the Holodomor to the Frontlines in Moscow's Century of Violence – a book talk and discussion by Kristina Hook, Assistant Professor of Conflict Management, Kennesaw State University

When the Ukrainian Sun Rises explores the 1932–1933 Holodomor—a Stalinist artificial famine that killed millions. Drawing on a decade of interviews with Ukrainian leaders, anthropologist Kristina Hook shows how Holodomor memory shapes perceptions of existential threat, fuels identity reclamation, and helps explain Ukraine’s extraordinary resistance today.
