About this Event
2-DAY COURSE | STRENGTHEN YOUR ROLE ON THE WHEELCHAIR USER’S TEAM
Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 8:30 to 5:00 PM - Manual Wheelchair Focus
Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 8:30 to 4:30 PM - Powerchair Focus
Navigate the complex world of wheelchair mobility and assistive technology use for adults facing neurological impairments and accompanying comorbidities that challenge their independence and quality of life. Sessions provide therapists with the knowledge and tools necessary for obtaining appropriate wheelchairs and mobility aids tailored to an individual's needs based on life roles, goals, and environmental factors.
Assistive Technology Professionals from across Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation’s occupational and physical therapy practices will lead multidisciplinary sessions on wheelchair prescription and mobility management. This involves collaboration with healthcare professionals, caregivers, payor sources, and community resources to assist in achieving optimal outcomes.
A combination of lectures, hands-on lab, case presentations, video analysis and group discussions will be used to improve practitioner’s clinical decision making when assessing, prescribing, and fitting wheelchairs and mobility equipment for the adult population. Clinicians will explore the impact of the patient’s diagnosis, prognosis, functional capability, seating/positioning needs, and available funding sources on the selection process.
Both days feature engaging participatory labs where participants try out and fit a variety of wheelchairs, seating options and accessories to experience firsthand what are enablers and barriers for wheelchair users.
This course includes pre-requisite viewing of two lectures to help prepare you with wheelchair terminology and key processes. Links to these videos will be sent one week prior to the course:
