About this Event
Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation presents:
Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from 4:30 to 9:15 PM (4:00 PM Registration)
I n-Person | Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation - Elkins Park | Mayer Conf. Room
A thorough, accurate clinical assessment of the movement problem is a necessary, but challenging first step before establishing a gait treatment plan and effective intervention.
Structured visual gait observation using a gait analysis is moderately reliable. But it is a therapist’s clinical skills that are closely linked to increased reliability of gait analysis. This in-person workshop will review options for systematically analyzing gait and locomotion in individuals with and without neurologic impairments. Different frameworks for assessment will be introduced and discussed.
The focus of the content will be on clinical decisions regarding gait assessment and functional mobility. Participants will have the opportunity to practice with the use of video examples. Pros and cons of different means of analysis will be discussed, including how the assessment may be used to guide treatment interventions.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES—PARTICIPANTS WILL:
- Identify the phases of normal gait and critical function of each phase.
- Identify (3) common gait deviations seen in traditional observational gait analysis.
- Describe (3) frameworks for analyzing gait, including identification of one particular strength for each.
- Analyze video examples of movement and discuss observed deficits.
