Step inside one of London's most established and fascinating artist communities.
Founded in 1978, Kingsgate Workshops Trust has supported generations of artists, makers and creative practitioners. Today, more than fifty artists work across its studios, including painters, sculptors, ceramicists, jewellers and textile artists whose work is exhibited nationally and internationally.
Join curator and artist Dr Emma Neuberg, founder of Textiles Hub London, for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the current exhibition What Remains.
The tour begins with Collective Imagination, a specially curated display bringing together miniature works by artists currently working at Kingsgate. Presented side by side, these works create a rare portrait of a creative community usually dispersed behind individual studio doors.
Highlights include the unveiling of Emma Neuberg's new Anni Albers Collective Quilt, alongside works by artists working across painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles and mixed media.
Visitors will then be guided through the building's three floors, gaining access to artists' studios and hearing first-hand stories behind the work. Discover practices that have led to Royal Academy exhibitions, international residencies, major awards, television appearances and film projects.
Along the way, you'll encounter Material Witness, a unique installation revealing the hidden life of making through studio fragments, off-cuts, working materials and traces of artistic process. Together these objects offer a rare glimpse into the labour, experimentation and imagination that lie behind finished artworks.
There will also be an opportunity to purchase miniature works, with proceeds supporting both participating artists and the charity MIND.
The tour is led by Dr Emma Neuberg following recent exhibitions at 99 Bishopsgate, The Forge and The Mirror. The event is supported by Kingsgate Workshops Trust Director Dan Howard-Birt and the Kingsgate team, including Katie Dibb, whose recent work includes the archive of artist Paula Rego.
Whether you are a collector, curator, artist, student or simply curious about contemporary art, this is a rare opportunity to enter working studios, meet artists and discover how creative ideas become artworks.
Please arrive 15 minutes early.
