Join us for "What A Glorious Crash They Made" on June 25th at 6 PM, an immersive experience celebrating the music of the American Revolution! This unique event features Richard Franklin Donohue, a passionate tenor and music historian, who will lead us through a captivating collection of “New Songs” and Hymns published in New England during this pivotal time in history. As the air buzzes with nostalgia, witness how New England's spirited colonists used music to ignite rebellion, commemorate victories, and express gratitude during their quest for freedom. You’ll hear evocative selections like John Dickinson's "Liberty Song," William Billings' "Chester," and Thomas Paine's "Liberty Tree," along with popular British tunes reimagined with fresh lyrics that resonate with the fervor for independence.
Richard, a dedicated musician and the Town Historian of Cromwell, Connecticut, will share his original research, painting a vivid picture of how these songs "cultivated the sensations of Freedom," as John Adams put it. Expect an engaging blend of performance and storytelling that will transport you back in time!
Whether you’re a history buff, music lover, or simply curious about our nation’s past, this event promises to be a memorable evening filled with inspiration, community, and the rich sounds of revolution. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with history in a whole new way and join us as we celebrate our shared heritage through music. Mark your calendars and come ready to embrace the spirit of freedom!
Thank you to the Friends of the Conway Public Library for sponsoring this event, which is part of their 2026 Program Series.
