When: Sunday, October 26th, 2:00–4:30 PM (doors open 1:45 PM)
Overview
Join us for a men-centered Wellness Sunday designed to help Black men—and the young men they mentor—build confident, sustainable health habits. We’ll lower the stigma around mental health, demystify doctors’ visits, and give practical tools you can use the same day.
This month features a calming breath & grounding session with Peace of Mind Jazz (men only opener), on-site blood pressure screenings, a plain-language “Mental Health Meds 101” touchpoint, and a supportive Circle Talk that includes mentors, teens, and loved ones. You’ll also leave with a pocket “My Med List” card, a starter routine checklist, and local resource referrals.
Why this matters
- Men’s mental health is essential. We’ll name common stigmas and the anxiety that can come with going to the doctor—and replace them with simple, doable steps.
- Starting early matters for our teens: learning how to schedule checkups, ask questions, and share family medical history builds lifelong confidence.
- Knowing your blood pressure, meds/supplements, and personal risk factors helps you advocate for yourself.
What to expect
- Men-Centered Breathing & Grounding (Peace of Mind Jazz) — stress relief to reset the nervous system (men only; loved ones welcomed afterward)
- Blood Pressure Screenings — quick, confidential readings and what your numbers mean
- Mental Health Meds 101 — when meds are considered, what to expect, side effects, and safety (short, practical, judgment-free)
- How to Talk to Your Doctor — scripts for booking annual checkups, what to bring, and how to discuss family history
- Circle Talk (All Together) — brave, supportive conversation for men, mentors, teens, and families
- Resource Handoff — local therapists, community groups, low-cost clinics, crisis lines, and a next-steps checklist
Who should attend
- Adult men, teen boys (with parent/guardian or mentor), mentors & mentee groups, partners, and family supporters.
You’ll leave with
- A completed BP reading and understanding of your next steps
- A pocket “My Med List” card (Med — Dose — What I take it for)
- A Men’s Health Kickstart Checklist (food, movement, sleep, checkups)
- Referrals and community resources for ongoing support
What to bring
- A list (or photos) of your current medications/supplements
- Any BP readings you’ve taken recently (home, Ph*rm*cy, clinic)
- Comfortable clothing for light movement
