Wellness Promotion for People Experiencing Homelessness
About this Event
When we meet people where they are, we often focus on the literal meaning of that - encampments and home visits - without exploring what it means to meet people where they are emotionally and figuratively. This training equips homeless services staff to engage program participants who use substances through a person-centered, recovery-oriented, non-judgmental approach that improves trust, engagement, and housing outcomes. Attendees will explore the origins of risk-reduction strategies and the well-documented relationship between trauma and substance use. The session is designed to explore and dispel common myths about common substances and the people who use them while providing actionable information on education and strategies to promote wellness and increase engagement.
