Join us for this special screening of this award winning Aotearoa-made film - Tinā (2024). If you missed it in the cinemas the first time round, you can now watch it from the comfort of the Newtown Community Centre!
Doors open at 5pm
Film starts at 6pm (running time is 2 hours 4 minutes)
Tickets are just $25 waged / $20 unwaged (all tickets include snacks) and proceeds go toward keeping your Timebank in operation.
About the film:
Award-winning writer/director Miki Magasiva (The Panthers, We Are Still Here) makes his feature debut with Tinā (Samoan for "mother"). Samoan music teacher Mareta (Anapela Polataivao) is plunged into grief after losing her daughter in the Christchurch quakes. Mareta takes a relieving role at an elite private school, where she inspires her students to perform at a big choral competition. In the trailer Mareta faces a condescending interview at Saint Francis, and her growing relationship with "spoiled, rich kids" annoys a family member. Tinā was chosen to open the 2024 Hawai’i International Film Festival.
The Guardian says "It’s a big-hearted tear-jerker about the power of art – and it’s already breaking records in its home country, where it’s received the widest-ever release for a local film and become the sixth-highest grossing New Zealand film of all time."
This film is rated M (contains violence, offensive language and suicide references).
