Celebrate dance traditions from India and Uganda through performance, music, storytelling, and movement. Experience the beauty and grace of Odissi with the Redmond Library’s own Odissi Dance Troupe, then explore the rhythms and stories of Ugandan traditional dance in an interactive workshop for all ages.
Cathy Nawany Dunlap is a Ugandan cultural dancer, singer, and tradition bearer from the Karamoja region. She has represented Ugandan culture internationally, including at the World Exhibition in China, and has performed with the Ndere Cultural Troupe. Her work centers on preserving traditional Ugandan dance, music, and beadwork, using instruments such as African drums, the adungu, xylophone, and gourd shakers. Cathy trains dancers of all ages and is committed to documenting and sharing her cultural heritage.
Sharbani Datta is a distinguished Odissi dancer and educator with a Sangeet Bhaskar (Master’s degree) from Pracheen Kala Kendra, affiliated with Chandigarh University. With more than 34 years of experience, she has dedicated her career to preserving and sharing the timeless beauty of Odissi. An accomplished performer, passionate teacher, and cultural ambassador, she has performed across India, the UK, and the United States, earning recognition for her expressive storytelling and mastery of the classical form.
