Kinusaiga is a traditional Japanese "no-sew" quilting technique where fabric scraps (often from kimonos) are tucked into grooves on a flat surface to create vivid, textured patchwork pictures, often referred to as "silk painting".
Modern adaptations use dense foam boards, making this sustainable, accessible, and relaxing art form a popular way to create detailed landscape or floral art without using a needle or thread.
You'll have plenty of fabric choice from the selection in the Scrapstore - and you can of course bring along your own fabric if you have some that you would particularly like to include in your work.
You will also need to bring along a suitable image - this needs to fit on a 8" x 8" square. We suggest looking for stained glass images or templates online. You will need to print it out and bring to the workshop as we won't have printing facilities available on the day. You could also choose to draw your image directly onto the board - or maybe do some combination of printing and drawing if the image you like isn't quite the right size or format.
(Obviously the more detailed your design, the longer it will take, so if you choose something with lots of small sections you may not finish within the two hours.)
£15 for non-members and £12.50 for members (you'll need your membership number to book the reduced rate.)
This workshop is for adults and accompanied young people aged 12+ due to the use of sharp objects.
