About this Event
On weekends, we’ll be working along the Ma’iingun Wildwood Trail, named in honor of Indigenous ornithologist and conservationist Etta S. Wilson. This new trail will weave through the southern section of Rouge Park, our highest-quality forest, following the river and connecting people with one of the most beautiful natural areas in the city.
Our first weekend workday focuses on removing invasive species at a new trail entrance near Tireman, where a natural stand of pawpaw trees grows along the river. We’ll be joined by youth from the Detroit Zoo Conservation Stewardship Internship Program.
- Dec 6, 9am-12pm Pawpaw Ma’iingun Trail entrance (Spinoza Dr., just south of Tireman)
Our final weekend workday takes us to the Sugarbush entrance, where we’ll continue clearing invasive species along the forest edge ending the day with a bonfire!
Dec 13, 2pm-5pm Sugarbush (Outer Drive, south of Tireman, north of Warren)
Volunteers should dress for the weather! Pants, long sleeves, boots, warmer gloves and a water bottle! Perhaps a snack!
Rouge Park will provide water, work gloves, and the tools!
