Detroit’s Largest Hanukkah Celebration Returns — Menorah in the D Shines Brighter Than Ever

Detroit’s most beloved Hanukkah celebration is back — bigger, more meaningful, and more unifying than ever. On Sunday, December 14, 2025, thousands are expected to gather at Campus Martius Park for the 15th annual Menorah in the D, Michigan’s largest public Hanukkah celebration and a powerful tradition of light, resilience, and community.

What began in 2011 with a few hundred attendees has grown into a major regional event featuring live music, family activities, festive foods, crafts, and the lighting of a 26-foot menorah — believed to be the largest in Michigan. This year’s celebration carries special emotional resonance with the participation of Ella Ben-Ami and her freed parents, survivors of Hamas captivity. Their presence underscores Hanukkah’s central message: standing proudly in one’s identity in the face of adversity.
