Wear It Again – Fashion, Community and Circular Style
About this Event
This September, the University of Salford, Salford City Council and GM Business Growth Hub are joining forces to welcome students, local Salford enterprises and third sector organisations to ‘Wear It Again – Fashion, Community & Circular Style,’ a sustainable fashion show and thrift event as part of the University’s Centenary Planet 100 series.
Guests will have the opportunity to hear from Salford academics, alumni and local organisations paving the way in the sustainable fashion and circular economy spaces, on the work they’re doing to drive and champion greener practices to secure the sustainable future of our society and planet.
During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to get expert tips from Salford’s talented fashion students and alumni, on everything from fixing techniques to give clothes a new lease of life, to upcycling and creative ways to transform old garments into something new.
Throughout the day, guests can browse and shop a range of pre-loved clothing from on-site stalls, attend ‘fix and wear again’ workshops delivered by community upcycling and sustainability experts from Rag Revival, plus visit repair stations led by Salford fashion students, breathing new life into their purchases through small simple fixes, while discovering easy ways to extend the life of their clothes.
Some of the newly reimagined garments will then take centre stage in the runway show later in the day, alongside looks curated from pre-loved finds from Salford’s local Cancer Research and Samaritans charity shops.
During a panel discussion, moderated by the University of Salford’s Lecturer in Enterprise and Sustainability, Dr Gabi Round, guests will hear from prominent voices in the sustainable fashion industry, alongside graduates from our MA Fashion Business and Marketing course. The discussion will explore ‘Sustainability in Business Practice’ and feature inspiring speakers, including Salford alumni who are driving positive change in this space. Confirmed panellists include:
- Emma Peacock, Salford graduate and Founder of eco-conscious fashion brand, DAEZ
- Saumya Srivastava, Salford graduate and sustainable luxury leather accessories designer
- Catherine Ingham, Salford graduate and Founder of eco-conscious lingerie brand, Rose & Co Bare
- Estelle Pearce, Salford graduate and Founder of sustainable styling apps, Closet Remix: Wardrobe and Fashion Fusion CIC
- Susan Ejeme, Salford graduate and sustainable fashion blogger
In addition, GM Business Growth Hub and Salford CVS (Community and Voluntary Services) will be on hand to support students and the local business community with enterprise, start-ups and developing ideas into sustainable ventures, offering practical advice, while signposting to the resources and opportunities available.
