We Are Worthy of Love: A Village Grief CeremonySaturday, April 11th- 5pm - 8pm
Poetry Yurt on the Commons - 675 North Road, Gabriola
We are hosting our third community grief ceremony. We will be exploring grief using the gates of grief outlined by Francis Weller in his book The Wild Edge of Sorrow.
During this ceremony we will be guided by the Second Gate of Grief: The places that have not known love.
"These are profoundly tender places precisely because they have lived outside of kindness, compassion, warmth, or welcome. These are the places within us that have been wrapped in shame and banished to the farthest shores of our lives."
Join us for a guided journey to look at parts of ourselves that have not known love, through the eyes of a compassionate gaze. This ceremony will incorporate ritual, music, guided meditation and art.
This may be the gathering for you if:
• You seek a supportive place to allow yourself to explore your grief.
• You’re working toward greater self-compassion and kindness
• You wish to acknowledge these neglected or rejected parts of yourself and wrap them in loving kindness
Grieving in community is a healing practice found across cultures, which has all but been extinguished in recent centuries by colonization, religious imposition, and modernization. We desire to bring back our right to grieve deeply, wildly, unapologetically and safely. In this gathering, we will participate in grieving rituals and practices to explore and normalize our individual and collective grief.
Personal grief varies and can include loss of loved ones, unloved parts of ourselves, lost opportunities, loss of parts of our natural world, as well as the ancestral grief that most of us carry.
We invite you to join us as we remember together what it truly is to grieve, as is our human birthright.
