Watercolor en Plein Air
Date: Tuesday, July 14, 2026
Time: 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Location: Japanese Peace Garden, 800 Alder St.
Cost: $16 per session
Ages: 16 years old – adult
Instructor: Jamie Umana
Min/max: 4/10 students – classes will be canceled two days before if the student minimum is not met.
En plein air is a French expression meaning, “in the open air,” and in the style of the Impressionists, we will bring our paper and palettes outdoors and capture the essence of our subject in natural light, color, and movement. Participants can attempt a full landscape, or focus on noticing and recreating the shapes, colors, and textures of natural objects. This class will meet at the Japanese Garden entrance. Painting supplies will be provided, but participants may want to bring a foldable chair for sitting, as well as sun hat, bug spray, or any other supplies typically needed when spending time outdoors in summer.
No onsite registration available for this class; register ahead of time online or in-person at the museum.
