About this Event
Wetlands are one of the Chesapeake Bay watershed’s most important ecosystems. Restoring and managing this ecosystem is vital to improving the Bay’s health and biodiversity.
To better understand how people are supporting these efforts, Girl Scouts can travel to Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine with the National Aquarium for an outdoor field research experience. They’ll receive “hands-on, feet wet” learning opportunities using field equipment to survey the fort’s restored wetland, which is normally inaccessible to park guests.
Girl Scouts will discover the benefits wetlands provide to wildlife and people alike, and learn how scientists collect and use data to assess the Bay's health.
Please note that this excursion will involve walking along sandy or muddy, narrow trails and uneven terrain. This is a drop-off event held entirely outdoors, so all participants must dress accordingly. Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring a water bottle. Waders for aquatic exploration activities will be provided by the National Aquarium. All participating Scouts will receive a National Aquarium patch.
Space is limited in the ground’s gated wetland section. If you do not secure one of our limited chaperone tickets, you are welcome to enjoy the accessible portions of Fort McHenry, including the walking trails, while you wait for your Girl Scout(s).
Tickets purchased through Eventbrite are specific to this Girl Scout program and do not include general admission to the National Aquarium or entrance to the paid portions of Fort McHenry.
