When: The event begins on Friday, June 26th at 9:00am and will run daily from 9:00am until 6:00pm through the weekend ending at 6:00pm on Sunday. Maps for dispersed camping locations will be provided for those who wish to camp.
Where: The exact meetup location is still to be determined but will most likely be just outside of the city limits on the east side. Staff will be in contact with the city of Walla Walla to determine the best location to do this. we will announce coordinates on the page soon.
Who: This event is open to everyone! Families, neighbors, and anyone who isn't afraid to get a little dirty for a great cause. Regardless of political affiliation, age, race, gender, or preferences; every single person is welcome. This is a land cleanup event. If you're there, then you're awesome! Simple as that.
The Mission
Let's face it: our valley, roadsides, and public spaces have a massive litter problem. From wind-blown highway trash to illegal dump sites out in the ditches and surrounding public lands, it's an eyesore and a hazard.
We are stepping up to change that. Following the core creed of the Gambler 500, "we are all the stewards of our public lands," we are hosting a community-wide sweep to leave our corner of Washington better than we found it. We aren't just picking up plastic bottles—we're hitting the spots that are usually overlooked or forgotten
The Meetup:
We’ll gather at the staging area to hand out trash bags and assign specific cleanup grids/roadsides based on what your vehicle or walking team can handle.
The Sweep:
We’ll head out in teams. Standard cars and walkers can tackle the easier roadside grids, while rigs, trucks, and utility vehicles head out to handle the heavy stuff, tires, and remote spots.
Drop-Off:
We will be renting a large dumpster to handle the rubbish. We expect that this will be a relatively small event so a single 40yd dumpster should handle what we’re able to tackle.
“Is my vehicle rugged enough?”
YES. You do not need a custom rig or a beat-up trail rig to participate. Minivans, daily drivers, flatbeds, and foot-power are all welcome. We need eyes on the ground and hands in gloves just as much as we need trucks to haul away the heavy debris.
What to Bring:
Heavy-duty work gloves
Sturdy, closed-toe boots or work shoes
A rig, truck, or trunk space to haul bags if you've got it (if not, we'll pair you with a driver!)
Water and snacks for the trail
What We Provide:
Heavy-duty trash bags
Staging maps and target locations
Our public lands and backroads keep our valley beautiful and open for everyone to enjoy. Let's do our part to keep them that way. Show up, bring a buddy, pack a rig, and let's clean up Walla Walla.
