Wall-hung Display Shelves
About this Event
Beginner friendly course to learn basic woodworking joinery by building a wall-hung display shelf. The shelf extent dimesions will be about 16 x 15 x 4".
No prior experience needed for this course, all supplies and materials are provided. Partcipants will be introduced to each machine, provided operational overview, safety considerations, and have hands-on experience.
Over the course of this 3-hour workshop we will be using dimensional lumber to create a wall-hung display shelf using a variety of beginner friendly joinery such as dados, rabbets, dowels, dominos, and french cleats.
The workshop is hosted at Clear Creek Makerspace and open to everyone. $100 per participant, $80 for CCM members.
Please wear comfortable well-fitted clothing, close-toed shoes, put your hair up, and be prepared to get a little dirty :)

- Woodworking II: Wall-hung Display Shelves -- Beginner joinery such as butt, rabbet, dowel, domino, pocket holes, grooves, dados, french cleats and more.
- -- Intermediate joinery such as sliding dovetails and the mortise and tenon.
- -- Advanced joinery such as handcut dovetails. This course will focus on layout, cutting pins and tails for a perfect fit... and fixing gaps post-mortem.
- Woodworking V: Bending & Laminations Serving Tray (TBA)-- Advanced topics such as bending on a hot iron and using multi-part or structural forms to build laminations.

We will take dimensional softwood lumber and build a small wall-hung cabinet.

- Discussion on wood movement and why we need to mill lumber
- How to use the Festool Domino joiner
- How to measure and cut for dowels
- How to cut and fit dado joints
- Cutting and fitting rabbets
- Cutting case miters
- Using a pocket hole jig
- Reinforced butt joint
- How to mount a french cleat
- Discussion on staining and finishing options
