About this Event

Apprehensive about safely operating the table saw? Want some supervised time "behind-the-wheel"? This class is for you! The table saw is the most versatile and important tool in the woodshop, let's build the confidence and skills to use it safely.

This 3-hour workshop teaches the basics of how to use the SawStop table saw in the Clear Creek Makerspace woodshop. We'll learn how to make safe, accurate, and repeatable rip cuts and crosscuts in the context of contructing a small end table. $150 per participant ($120 for CCM members using their discount code).

No prior experience is needed for this course. lt is recommended that interested folks take our Intro to Woodshop course prior to taking this course however, it is certainly not required. All supplies and materials are provided.

You will learn the fundamentals of how to use the table saw safely through hands-on experience. We'll take prepared lumber and carefully cut it down into the pieces to build a small end table via rip cuts and crosscuts: the core skills of proper table saw usage!

Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this workshop covers essential techniques for successful table saw operation.

As part of this course, you'll receive a more in-depth understanding of the table saw than our Intro to Woodshop course provides. That includes:

  • Table saw "anatomy"
  • Basic table saw functions and use cases
  • How to properly set the table saw blade height and blade angle
  • Proper technique for safely making rip cuts
  • How to use a feather board
  • How to make repeatable crosscuts using a crosscut sled
  • A review of the SawStop brake system

Hey everyone! I'm Michael. I've been woodworking since I can remember; I practically grew up in my grandfather's shop helping him with his projects where I was able. I'm from Bettendorf, IA, moved to Fort Collins in 2020, and then down to Arvada in 2024. During college I was a TA for a manufacturing lab so I'm quite familiar with teaching, holding office hours, providing assistance with hands-on work, and making sure everyone leaves with the same number of eyes and fingers that they came in with. I'm very excited to get to continue with that sort of work here at CCM! Other than woodworking I spend a lot of time running, working out, and love going camping with my partner and our three-legged dog Yonder (please ask me about her!). Looking forward to meeting you!
