About this Event
Have you ever wondered why it's there? This walk will answer that question, and subsequently bring forth the story of the second railway line to reach Calgary.
Join student and local rail historian Alec Hamilton for a walk along the forgotten railway grade through Inglewood, bringing forth the stories of the 25 industrial rail lines that used to span the city of Calgary, snaking through alleyways and neighbourhoods. After a nice walk along the peripheries of the Bow River, you’ll know a lot more about the railway tracks that were once a lifeblood connecting many of Calgary’s businesses and industries.
WALK NOTES: Uneven terrain, fast paced / covering lots of ground, will use speakers / voice amplification, this walk is one-way and ends at a different location
MEETING SPOT: 2425 9 Ave SE, Calgary, AB T2G 4T4 - Inglewood Bird Sanctuary Parking Lot
YOUR WALK LEADER: Alec Hamilton (he/him) is a student, theatre artist, and amateur historian living in Calgary. Leading two Jane's Walks this year, Alec has been working to bring the forgotten stories of Calgary's rail history into the spotlight. He has contributed his work and research to his community newsletter and to local journalism outlet The Sprawl's Curious Calgary project, and builds a website exploring Calgary rail history. In his free time, Alec can be found cycling, taking photographs, and being an annoying nerd about the abandoned train station under the Calgary Tower.
***Please note, we ask that folks cancel their tickets through Eventbrite if they can no longer make it to a walk as tickets are limited. This allows folks on the waitlist to take open spots.***
