Combining solo performance, video projection design and live music, Walking Home explores care-giving, mortality, hope, resilience and art, with Ukrainian perogies! A world premiere, Walking Home is RenaissantArts’ first full theatre production in Calgary.

The story of the text hangs loosely around the progression of one day, as the narrator prepares a special Ukrainian dinner, their last meal at the family home before his parents are to transition into a seniors' residence the next day. As the day progresses, the narrator explores real and imagined, intertwined histories/personal mythologies, his mother’s, his Ukrainian grandmother Baba, and . . . Mozart; past and present collide with the questions: what is truth in memory and what is imagined? What is the nature of personal mythologies? What is remembered within family? Memory plays a highly personal and selective role in building our personal mythologies. But what happens when after creating our mythologies, they begin to disappear, to be replaced by only the living present (no past, no future), as is the case with advanced Alzheimer's? And how do loved ones respond to and assist with keeping those loved one’s mythologies alive, archived for the future.

With live music with noted Calgary violinist Anastasiia Lykhosherstova, Walking Home explores memory, mortality, hope, and Baba’s secret recipes for good Ukrainian food - live onstage. Be ready to laugh, be ready to cry (bring tissues), and most importantly, be ready to share Ukranian perogies!
