Join Sycamore Audubon Society and NICHES Land Trust for a Saturday morning birding hike on private property near Black Rock Nature Preserve. This land has diverse habitats- woodlands, old prairie, stream floodplains, and 2 waterfalls that bring an interesting variety of bird species and spring wildflowers.The land is scheduled to be donated to NICHES in June 2026—join the hike to see the birds and the land before the donation, hear from the landowner about motivations for the donation, and learn how to get involved in land protection.
Bring sturdy shoes, binoculars, and water/snacks for yourself. Trails are degraded, can be steep, and cross various amounts of water. Bird feeders in the uplands available to watch for those that don’t want to venture into the hills.
This trip is co-sponsored with NICHES. Meet at the Celery Bog parking lot to carpool as parking is very limited.
