Walk in the Woods: Mussel Power (VA)

Did you know that mussels filter out materials like algae, bacteria, sediment, to the tune of 8 - 15 gallons per mussel per day? That's a lot of heavy lifting for a small critter!
Ready to discover more? Join Prince William County staff for an exploration of the fascinating world of freshwater mussels just under the surface of our streams. They will show us how a basic mussel survey is done, why mussels have a hand in improving stream health, and discuss the before-and-after of the water quality at the pilot site at Locust Shade Park.
Expect to walk about one mile on a shaded gravel trail with some gentle slopes. Please bring your own water bottle.
This event is FREE but please register on Eventbrite in case of delays or rescheduling due to bad weather.
