About this Event
Walk in Our Shoes is a powerful interactive community event designed to help participants better understand and humanize the often unseen impact of incarceration on both sides of the bars.
At the heart of this event is a one-hour live presentation that walks attendees through how a Pr*son visit is experienced from multiple perspectives—including the guardian, youth, incarcerated person, correctional officer, and intake officer. Through this immersive experience, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the emotional, practical, and relational challenges that can arise before, during, and after a Pr*son visit.
This experience shines a light on what families and loved ones on the outside often carry—navigating transportation, stress, rules, separation, and emotional strain—while also helping attendees understand the human experience of the person on the inside and the institutional environment surrounding the visit.
Walk in Our Shoes is designed to go beyond statistics and assumptions. It helps participants see incarceration through a more human lens by exploring the voices, emotions, and realities of those impacted on all sides of the Pr*son visit experience.
