Free, walk-in cervical screening (smear tests) are available at St Bernard's Church (Elswick Road, Preston, PR2 1NT).
The NHS Mobile Cervical Screening Unit regularly visits this site for individuals aged 25 to 64 who are overdue, missed their last appointment, or have never been screened.
Who Can Attend: Women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64
Appointments: No booking needed; walk-ins are welcome
What to Bring: Just turn up—you can attend no matter which GP practice you are registered with.
How the Test WorksThe screening process is quick and takes under 5 minutes. A nurse on the van will take a small sample of cells from your cervix to test for high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Early detection of HPV or cell changes is crucial, as the NHS notes that 99.8% of cervical cancer cases are preventable.
