Walk A Mile in Their Shoes is YWCA Cambridge’s annual family friendly community walk and fundraising campaign to end gender-based violence (GBV). On October 18, we’ll walk a symbolic one-mile route through downtown Cambridge to raise awareness and funds. This event is about walking in someone else's shoes and understanding the challenges many women and gender-diverse people face as victims of GBV. Every step helps our community access shelter, support and violence prevention programs in schools.
All proceeds directly fund:
- A 24/7 emergency women’s emergency homeless shelter
- Free, violence prevention education with youth across Cambridge
🔁 How It Works

- Only 13% of shelter beds in Canada are dedicated to women
- A woman or girl is killed every 48 hours in Canada
YWCA Cambridge’s youth programs reach kids as young as 8, but rely on community support to keep going.
