Join us to help propagate and spread native plants to support biodiversity (especially pollinators) and make a difference in our community!
About this Event

Volunteers are invited to participate in our upcoming Community Garden Propagation Event at the Roberto Adobe & Sunol House Museum Garden. Participants will tour the garden and then assist with bagging trash and learning how to propogate new native plants. These activities play an important role in maintaining the health, appearance, and educational value of the museum’s native plant landscape.

As part of the day’s work, volunteers will also help plant yerba buena (Clinopodium douglasii) cuttings from the garden into individual pots and transplant California fuchsia (Epilobium canum) from walking pathways to containers. These propagated plants will be cared for over the spring and summer and shared with the community during our fall programs, supporting broader access to locally native species and strengthening public engagement with the site’s ethnobotanical history. To ensure a comfortable and productive experience, we will provide two dozen hori hori knives for weeding, foam knee pads, gloves, and masks for all participants.

All volunteers will be offered water, fruit, and locally native seeds and potted plants. We are grateful for the community’s continued support in caring for this culturally and ecologically significant museum garden.

Native plants are one of the most effective tools we have for addressing global climate change. They store carbon more efficiently than many ornamental species and support far greater biodiversity. Choosing keystone plants is especially impactful because they sustain an exceptional number of insects, birds, and other wildlife that depend on them for survival. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Afterwards, tour the Roberto Adobe and Sunol House, which is a historic museum certified as an Interpretive Site of the Anza Trail and included in the Passport 2 History program. The site remains an important landmark focusing on Indigenous, Spanish, Mexican, and United States histories.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or interested in sharing your knowledge, please email our grants and garden manager at [email protected]. Thank you for your time and consideration.
