Join us on Tuesday 2nd June for an evening of discovery. Together, we will explore the diverse voices of the Middle Ages through the work of both established and new-generation medievalists. The evening will feature presentations from our MA Medieval Studies students at the University of Lincoln, whose research has inspired a range of fascinating public-facing projects, alongside a special talk from our Visiting Professor Janina Ramirez.
Janina will introduce her new book, Legenda, which examines how the lives of influential women have been adapted, distorted, and appropriated by those intent on crafting national identities. From figures such as Joan of Arc, Lady Godiva, and Isabella I of Castile to pioneering women of revolutionary Europe whose achievements have been overlooked, Janina challenges familiar narratives and interrogates what defines a nation and who gets to build it. This approach reveals how history is so often hijacked to serve the ideological and political interests of the present.
