The Hope College Department of Music proudly presents Voices of the Americas, a vibrant concert celebrating the rich vocal traditions of Latin America. The performance will take place on March 14, 2026 at 3pm in the Jack H. Miller Concert Hall, and features the Hope College Chapel Choir, SPERA, VERITAS, and College Chorus. This event is sponsored in part by the Patrons of the Arts Grant.
A highlight of the concert is the residency and guest conducting appearance of María Guinand, one of the world’s most influential choral conductors and scholars of Latin American music. Maestra Guinand will be in residence at Hope College from March 12–14, working with singers and leading the concert performance.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, María Guinand is internationally recognized for her leadership in choral music and her advocacy for Latin American repertoire. She serves as Artistic Director of the Schola Cantorum de Venezuela and has conducted major choirs across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Her work and her decades-long teaching career have shaped generations of singers and conductors. A passionate educator and cultural ambassador, she has dedicated her career to promoting Latin American choral music worldwide and fostering community through collective singing.
Voices of the Americas explores the diverse musical landscapes of Latin America through folk, popular, and historical works - including:
