Open Water Swim & Short Swim Clinic covering tips and tricks to take on the cold water from a professional triathlete. We are putting this together at Lake Viridian in an attempt to show the Lake Viridian Sail Center that we will take good care of their buoys and other resources, if we can have access to them for open water swims in 2026. This will allow us to have supported regular open water swims at Lake Viridian next year. Jason has connected with the sail center there to do this as a test run and that's why we are organizing this open water swim - to show them how we would use their resources. We also thought it would be a great OWS opportunity for those who love to swim here, are training for IM 70.3 Dallas-Little Elm, or who may be around and have never heard of this place as a location for open water swimming. This swim will be on Sunday, December 28th at 1:30 PM we'll meet and start from the sail docks (only big dock on the lake).
This will be a fully supported swim — kayaks, paddle boards, 1,000 yards of course buoys, and everything set up to make it safe and structured.
Afterward, we’ll celebrate with an after-Christmas smoked turkey feast (yes, with all the sides).
Garrett will kick things off with a free short cold-water swim clinic. Then it will be an open swim for you to practice around buoys and to use any cold gear you might want to try ahead of race day... far in advance.
There are no boats, no waves, marked course, full support, and it’s incredibly family-friendly: parks, beaches, walking trails, and lots to do while you train.
If you want to add a brick workout afterward, there are miles of trails and the 360/Airport Loop right from the parking lot.

Grab your wetsuit/cold gear and come swim.
If you’d rather paddle, hang out, or just come eat — that’s totally welcome too.
Let’s show up strong, make a great first impression, and hopefully make this a regular thing in 2026.
