Virginia 52 Hike Challenge- Great Falls Va :River Ridge to Swamp Trail

Come Join Hiking With The Bear and The Virginia 52 Hike Challenge at Great Falls Park : The River–Ridge–CCT–Swamp loop is a scenic ~4.8-mile moderate hike that typically takes about 2–3 hours with a group. You’ll start along the rocky River Trail with great Potomac views, then transition to easier forest paths on the Ridge and CCT trails before finishing on the often muddy Swamp Trail. It’s not very strenuous, but footing can be uneven, so good shoes and a bit of attention on the terrain go a long way.

When : Sunday March 29, 2026 @9:00am We will meet at the area below the Visitor Center by the restrooms.

Skill Level : Moderate ~5 miles. The main challenge isn’t endurance—it’s uneven, rocky terrain on the River Trail and some muddy sections, so basic balance and sturdy shoes are important.

Be sure to wear adequate clothing and sunscreen and bring at least 2L of water, along with snacks and electrolytes. As always, please pack your 10 essentials for safety reasons! Trekking Poles Optional!!

On weekends, the park fills up very quickly—often by mid-morning (sometimes before 10 AM). Once parking reaches capacity, they may temporarily close the entrance, meaning you’ll be turned away even if you’re on time for your hike. Expect traffic delays at the entrance gate as well.

👉 For a 9:00 AM start, it’s smart to arrive by 8:30–8:45 AM to avoid stress and ensure you get a spot.
