Vincent van Gogh has been described as many different things: artist, eccentric, tortured soul. But book lover? That’s a side of what many consider to be one of the greatest painters of all time that few know about. Van Gogh read about 450 books over the course of his life, many of which were contemporary novels from the likes of Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo and Émile Zola. A sensitive man, Van Gogh was deeply affected by what he read. Carol Berry will be using the literature Van Gogh read as a window into his remarkable life and showing pieces of art he created when he was reading certain books.
