About this Event

Third tasting in the series "La Palma - Panorama 360" which I will run in Dublin after spending 3 winters at "La Isla Bonita" doing my wine research.

For this tasting which is dedicated to Vibrant and Mineral Atlantic Reds I've picked different varieties and styles from La Palma top grower Victoria Torres Pecis.

Vicky manages different vineyards across the island all in all around 7 hectars of which 50% is own and 50% rented.

In wine producton today Vicky only uses whole bunch fruits with rare exceptions. If destemmed, then it’s all done by hand. Only ambient yeast are used & some fermentations go for very long time (as long as 2 years in some vintages).
On the night we'll taste:

  • Latest vintage of Jeronuimo 2022 - estate wine from North-West (Garrafia). Blend of Listan Prieto, Listan Negro and La Palma signarute black variety Negramol. Ols vines circa 70 years of age.
  • Vibrant Clarete 2022 - field blend of red and white grapes (style that only allowed by law in Spain and Champagne)
  • Lalo 2022 - estate wine from North West of the island, circa 1400m altitude, blend of most planted black variety Listan Negro and Negramol.
  • Rare old vintage of Listan Prieto 2016 aka Mission Grapes from further North West, also known as País in Chile or Criolla Chica in Argentina. Clay soils, mighty bushes, structural wines with great ageing potential. Variety that first been brought to Canarias during the era of discoveries and then travelled further afield to Americas.
You'll also get to taste some traditional La Palma snacks and nibbles to accomany those wines.

In the heart of Dublin, next door to Saint Patrick Cathedral, small and cozy café will reveal hidden gems from remote corners of Canary Islands archipelago.

Some vineyars have very high gradient of inclination. In some places as much as 50 degree. No mechanisation of any kind is possible there.

An old wooden press circa 1880 that been used by family for many generations. Today it's only utilised for rose and sweet wines production.

Some high altitude vineyards simply scattered among pine-tree forests.

Tasting wines in development. Although they are minimal intervention, you can't leave everything in "God's hands". Control of the process at each stage is the paramount of a good wine.

Always with a smile. This photo (taken in April 2025) became so popular that even ended up in Tim Atkin's "Canary Islands 2025 report"

Negramol - La Palma signature red grape variety. Also the wine that made Vicky Torres famous worldwide. Historically it's been used a lot in red blends in La Palma.

Peppery aromas are typical representation of Listan Negro - the most planted red variety of the island. We'll taste estate wine Lalo coming from high altitude vineyards circa 1400m of North West.
