On Veterans Day, join Echoes of the Forest and the Charles George VA Medical Center as we unveil a memorial bench honoring Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans.
The bench was carved by Mike Ayers of Whetstone Woodworks, a chainsaw artist and a veteran himself, from Helene salvaged wood. It will have a permanent home on the medical center campus: a place to sit, rest, and reflect.
Schedule 11:00 AM: The VA's Veterans Day ceremony 12:15 PM: Bench unveiling, with remarks from Echoes founder Liisa Andreassen and artist Mike Ayers
The event is free and open to the public. Veterans, families, and community members are all welcome.
We're keeping the bench under wraps until the unveiling. Come see it in person on November 11.
Echoes of the Forest is a Western North Carolina 501(c)(3) that repurposes Helene salvaged trees into public art by local Appalachian woodworkers. Learn more at echoesoftheforest.org.
