About this Event
Vernal pools are one of Sonoma County’s hidden gems, and each year brings something a little different. Vernal pool flora depend on many factors such as timing and total amount of rainfall, and daytime temperatures, making every visit a unique experience. During this fun and exploratory field outing, we will marvel at the tiny blooming botanical wonders and talk about vernal pool conservation goals and challenges.
Join us as we explore oak woodland, grasslands and seasonal wetland habitat at the private preserve Fox Hollow and City of Santa Rosa Youth Community Park in northwest Santa Rosa, where we are likely to see many different native vernal pool flowers and grasses, including the endangered Sonoma sunshine. Walking distance will be relatively short over uneven terrain with frequent kneeling and crouching to look at the small plants.
This field trip is offered at no cost due to the generous support and collaboration of the Regional Water Quality Control Board and City Ventures.
