Course Outline:
Understand the anatomy and physiology of veins, including the differences between veins and arteries, and apply this knowledge to site selection for IV therapy and venepuncture.
Demonstrate mastery of infection control practices, including aseptic non-touch techniques, to prevent complications such as phlebitis and infections.
Perform IV cannulation and venepuncture procedures confidently and accurately, adhering to safety protocols and evidence-based guidelines.
Recognise and manage complications associated with these procedures, such as hematoma formation, infiltration, and syncope.
Apply effective, patient-centred communication to ensure informed consent, comfort, and cooperation during procedures.
