Celebrating Each Other/Celebrándonos
During our time together, we will go around the circle and share the spotlight so that you can brag, yes brag! about where you are in your artistic journey and we will celebrate you with aplausos and hype vibes.
Durante nuestro tiempo juntos, iremos alrededor del círculo y daremos oportunidad de compartir con aire de presumiendo — ¡sí, presumir! — de dónde te encuentras en tu camino artístico. Y te celebraremos con aplausos y buena vibra.
Artist Compartiendo Inspiration
Our special guest artist for our upcoming convivio is Daniela Vargas Calvo.
" I am a dancer, choreographer, dance teacher, and social media content creator with experience in project management and production. My passion for dance and my academic studies equip me with the tools to create performances and develop projects that respond to various circumstances and social contexts.
I work with diverse communities, teaching dance to individuals ranging from children to elders. I produce dance seasons, create dance programs, and develop shows that engage and inspire audiences. I am the co-founder and co-director of Las De Allá Contemporary Dance Collective and direct the Las Malas Latin Sensual Femme Team. I currently dance with other Dance Companies in Austin as well, like Dance Waterloo and Lannaya Drum and Dance, and participate as individual artist in various events focused in Latine and Queer communities.
My life experiences, including being a Latina immigrant in the United States, shape my community-oriented approach. My background in sociology has significantly influenced my career as a dancer, leading my productions to address social issues and serve underserved communities. I incorporate clown techniques, Latin dance, West African dance, and poetry writing into my artistic process. My goal as an artist and teacher is to promote access to dance for all.
Bilingual and with over ten years of experience in dance, I am committed to creating work that resonates with audiences and makes a difference in the community."
Connecting/Conectando
In some places, they call it networking. But our goal goes beyond exchanging Instagram or LinkedIn handles. It is about affirming our sense of belonging to this city, this state, this bigger landscape of Latina, Latino, Latinx, Latiné Artists mustering everyday the valentía (courage) to explore and/or express who we are and what we are here to say through our art. It is about coming together to walk away feeling connected.
