Vals INTENSIVE - Rhythm, Cadencia & Vocabulary - 16 weeks Course

Vals is the most joyful of the three tango genres - light, circular, and irresistibly uplifting. With its 3/4 rhythm and flowing cadencia, it feels like spinning, floating, and drifting through music you simply cannot resist.

This 4-month Vals Intensive explores what truly makes Vals… Vals: its phrasing, double-time interpretation, rhythmic play, and the vocabulary that gives it that unmistakable swirling quality. Designed for dancers who already speak tango comfortably and are ready to add another dialect to their repertoire.

Musicality & Timing

* The affixed 1-2-3 rhythm
* Understanding double time (the magic in-between the beats)
* Vals criollo vs. Vals cruzado
* Cadencia, phrasing, and repetitive motifs

Vocabulary & Technique

* Essential Vals patterns and how to vary them
* Fluid turns and spiraling sequences
* Rhythmic transitions and musical play
* Combinations that make Vals look seamless and joyful

Prerequisite

Completion of the Intermediate Tango Course (all four cycles) or equivalent experience.

You should be comfortable with:

* Giros, molinetes, and direction changes
* Forward/back crosses
* Basic sacadas, barridas, boleos, ganchos, volcadas, colgadas, alterations (helpful but not required)
