LATIN DANCE PARTY – WHAT'S IN THE SALSACome and spend Valentine's day with Son Guarachando and special guests, and take a trip with us exploring the rich musical heritage of Cuban Salsa.
Cuban music has travelled the world mainly under the name of Salsa and left its mark on countless events, artists, and audiences. Yet many remain unaware of the genre’s true origins and the deep cultural significance behind its infectious rhythms.
With a full eight-piece live band and professional dancers leading the way, What’s in The Salsa invites you on a vivid journey to discover how genres like Afrobeat and Calypso share a heartbeat with Salsa , all connected by one essential rhythmic thread. Through music, dance, and storytelling, What's In The Salsa reveals the powerful ties linking diverse sounds across continents—and will have you dancing to them all.
The evening starts with a welcoming and inclusive dance class led by Damarys Farrés and Leo Henriquez
Then Adriana Lord and Son Guarachando take you on a musical adventure exploring the whole history of Cuban music – come and join the party!
Artists:
Son Guarachando is a Cuban, Latin, and Salsa band based in Brighton and performing across the UK and Europe. They are known for their energetic performances and repertoire of Son, Salsa, Cumbia, and Afro-Cuban music. The band is fronted by songwriter and vocalist Adriana Lord, who has a strong history in the Havana music scene.
Damarys Farrés is an award winning choreographer, dancer and cultural consultant, a powerhouse passionate about Afro-Cuban Culture and founder of The Cuban School of Arts, Cuba in Brighton Afro-Cuban Festival, the first ever Son Cubano Festival in the UK and visiting teacher for Carlos Acosta Danza.
Leo Henriquez is a dance master and leader of the South Coast's most popular Cuban dance classes.
